‘Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away.’ Deuteronomy 17:17
The Church has made a habit of tucking away lies in every piece of literature they’ve produced. Today we’re looking at how they couldn’t tell the truth about the number of people practicing their ‘new and everlasting covenant’.
Handbook of the Restoration: A Selection of Gospel Themes Discussed by Various Authors, p. 553 “The Mormon Church is not a polygamous society. In the early days of the Church the doctrine of plural marriage was introduced through divine revelation. The practice of plural marriage has never been general in the Church and at no time have more than 3 per cent of families in the Church been polygamous.” — Stephen L. Richards
But…
Nauvoo Roots of Mormon Polygamy, p. 34 “…preliminary demographic observations indicate that the practice of plural marriage, which Joseph Smith initiated among thirty families, more than quintupled in total number of participants—husbands, wives, and children—about 10 percent of the Mormon community by the end of the Nauvoo period in 1846…
…(Footnote 106)…By 1880, at the end of the Brigham Young era and before federal raids on polygamous households, about 33 percent of Mormons in the St. George stake and 67 percent in Orderville, Utah, lived in polygamous families.” — George D. Smith [emp. added]
This type of behavior isn’t new within Mormonism. Church members need only to read the lies of their own founder to learn how it’s done. For more info, see Mormon Polygamy Denials.
It’s a strange dichotomy in the world of Mormonism and the clouded history they try to hide. In one vein they’ll proudly tout the many accomplishments of their heritage, and in the blink of an eye, deny it.
Pray for those in Mormonism today to see the problem, and turn to Jesus, not Joseph!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
It’s not general in the church, but required for the celestial kingdom. Does that mean only 3% will make it. Sounds like another false religion.
In Matthew 19:3-6, Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:24: God’s Word speaks about a man and his wife (singular) being joined together in marriage, as ONE FLESH, (not more than one flesh).In 1 Timothy 3:2, Paul talks about each member having his own wife (not wives) and each woman having her own husband (not husbands)
I can’t remember if I shared this post with you before; it’s an article I wrote about God’s view of polygamy.
