General Conference, ‘Waiting on the Lord’ October 2020 “… while we work and wait together for the answers to some of our prayers, I offer you my apostolic promise that they are heard and they are answered, though perhaps not at the time or in the way we wanted. But they are always answered at the time and in the way an omniscient and eternally compassionate parent should answer them. My beloved brothers and sisters, please understand that He who never sleeps nor slumbers cares for the happiness and ultimate exaltation of His children above all else that a divine being has to do. He is pure love, gloriously personified, and Merciful Father is His name. …
COVID and cancer, doubt and dismay, financial trouble and family trials. When will these burdens be lifted? The answer is “by and by.” And whether that be a short period or a long one is not always ours to say, but by the grace of God, the blessings will come to those who hold fast to the gospel of Jesus Christ. That issue was settled in a very private garden and on a very public hill in Jerusalem long ago.” — Jeffrey Holland
Proverbs 10:9 “He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.”
Mr. Holland’s talk was filled with fluffy sayings that carried no meat, or meaning.
First of all, their god can’t be omniscient when he didn’t create the world, but merely organized its elements.
Secondly, Mr. Holland’s message of a god who is eternally compassionate disagrees with what it says in the BoM.
Helaman 12:3 “And thus we see that except the Lord doth chasten his people with many afflictions, yea, except he doth visit them with death and with terror, and with famine and with all manner of pestilence, they will not remember him.”
Thirdly, Mr. Holland’s apostolic promise is a ruse. He’s not a true apostle of Jesus Christ. The last apostle was John.
Fourth, the true God of the Bible repeatedly tells us that He alone is God, and warns us against self-exaltation.
Matthew 23:12 “And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”
Fifth, the blessing of the end of COVID will come to all people, not just the Saints.
Last, but not least, Jesus did NOT atone for the sins of mankind at Gethsemane. Their rejection of the cross at Calvary is one of the biggest signs they’ve rejected Jesus altogether.
There was no mention of anything from God’s word to remind people of God’s omnipresence which means he offered no hope.
Pray for Jesus to intervene, and cause Mormons to stop and think about this man’s empty words.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Apostolic promise? If Mormons read their Bibles, they would know that everything Mr Holland said about answered prayer, despair, patience in waiting on the Lord eyc, has already been promised to us through God’s Word.
Mormons don’t need General Authorities to tell them what God is up to. All they need is the Word of God, as recorded in the Holy Bible.
Amen, amen, amen brother!!!
I pray you all would realize we’re on the same side, I’ve never understood why other Christians attack us so much. We are continually taught to be like Christ, to lift, help, and teach Christian principle. Not to attack others that views don’t align with ours.
Hi Anonymous, Thanks for stopping by. Well I’m glad we’re in agreement that our Christian views (meaning Biblical Christianity) don’t align with your LDS views. As for attacking other religions, please show one instance of an attack on this site. Please know that disagreeing by comparing and contrasting is not attacking.
Just in the first vision narrative, Joseph Smith called the creeds of Christian Church an “abomination” (among other things), right? That doesn’t sound very Christ-like.
So we’re not attacking, just contending. Again, I’m glad you agree that the LDS church and traditional Biblical Christianity aren’t in alignment with one another. Because many LDS think differently…we believe in Jesus, the Bible, salvation, and so on. So I’m glad you understand the differences.
We believe these differences matter. Particularly, when it comes to your eternal salvation. And so we believe the LDS church teaches a different Jesus and a different gospel that can not save.
God is not made of flesh and bone, He is eternal, omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. Jesus is not the firstborn spirit child of Elohim and his goddess wife. Jesus is eternally God. Salvation is by grace alone. It can’t be earned. The Bible is the sufficient and complete Word of God, doesn’t need any help. And the Gospel is found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-8, and it’s the only Gospel in which we stand. It didn’t need any restoring.
And these are not little insignificant differences, that can be overlooked my friend. I care about TRUTH. In John 14:6 Jesus says “i am the way, and the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”.
No church, no prophet, no temple work, no marriage. None of that can save you. Just Jesus.
In Jesus ALONE,
Melissa
