Today we’re looking at timing, and how Joseph Smith lied about events in the Garden of Eden.
Moses 2:27-28 “And I, God, created man in mine own image, in the image of mine Only Begotten created I him; male and female created I them. 28 And I, God, blessed them, and said unto them: Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
Moses 3:24-25 “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”
Moses 5:10-11 “And in that day Adam blessed God and was filled, and began to prophesy concerning all the families of the earth, saying: Blessed be the name of God, for because of my transgression my eyes are opened, and in this life I shall have joy, and again in the flesh I shall see God. 11 And Eve, his wife, heard all these things and was glad, saying: Were it not for our transgression we never should have had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient.”
Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
Genesis 2:24-25 “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”
Genesis 3:6 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
The other thing to notice in the references above is how Mr. Smith plagiarized God’s word – see Moses 3:24-25, and Genesis 2:24-25.
Why does Joseph Smith’s canon contradict itself? How is this inspired?
When witnessing to the Mormon you know you’ll want to point out that before Adam and Eve sinned, God had told them to be fruitful and multiply.
Mormons believe they wouldn’t have the opportunity to have children while in the Garden of Eden.
Ask why Eve would praise God for their sin, and if they praise their kids for sinning. Does this make sense?
There’s no indication in God’s word they wouldn’t have been able to have kids while still living in Eden. While we don’t know what the Lord’s plan was for that, we do know Joe Smith’s version of events isn’t biblical.
Moreover, the idea God’s plan included sin, and death, to enter the scenario is a lie from the pit of hell. Only Satan wants to see death, not God!
Don’t forget to pray always for the Mormon people to slow down, and read things in context.
With Love in Christ;

Exactly. Until I was out of the church for several years, I did not realize the contradiction that Joe dreamed up. What was the point? Was he suggesting God clapped for joy when Adam and Eve sinned so they could finally start a family? Joe was/is/always will be a very bad man, doomed for eternity (that’s really long time) to suffer for his lies and making himself equal with God. I do pray for mormons everyday. The truth found only in the Bible is so beautiful and not altered by the whims of people, i.e., men masquerading as prophets.
In Mormon theology, partaking of the forbidden fruit was not “sin”, but “transgression”. It was something that God said not to do, but it was also a choice they had to make. The Mormon believes that it was not possible to keep both the commandments at the same time, so it was necessary to choose one of them.
Was God clapping when they partook of the fruit? Probably not, but it has been suggested (by the members, at least, not sure about the leaders) that the spirits who were waiting to obtain bodies may have been joyful that that option was chosen.
Calling this passage “plagiarism” is an odd choice, since it was supposed to be like unto a bible translation. Is it similar to the biblical passages? Of course, because it *is* the biblical passages with some minor modifications that he thought to be “inspired”.
Sin is ‘missing the mark’. Sin is going against God’s word. Trangression is sin. That’s an interesting play on words….’transgression is not sin’. That is not true. Joe made the announcement that Adam and Eve could not have children in the Garden of Eden…..they had to ‘transgress’ first. That’s a lie. I praise the name of Jesus for He opened my eyes. I am His b/c He chose me and freed me from the manmade religion Joseph created so he could be worshipped (and make a living for himself). Please read the Bible with the eyes of a child.
Well said Sandra!
Voro…sin is sin, and Adam and Eve were able to reproduce before they Sinned against God.
How do we know that?
Okay, if that’s how you want to define it, then more power to you.
I’m not sure the claim was that they had to transgress before procreating, just that they had to partake of the fruit of the tree (which would involve a transgression, but that is incidental to the requirement).
The question now is, did Adam and Eve have children before partaking of the fruit?
Voro,
There was no requirement in the Bible for Adam and Eve to eat anything prior to having children. Genesis 1:28 God told them to be fruitful and multiply; it was a command. Genesis 2 is an examination close up of 1:27; i.e., it tells how God created man (Adam and Eve) and what all they could eat — and the one thing they couldn’t eat. But they were to be fruitful and multiply, period. No caveats, no extra requirements.
Chapter 3 is where we learn they were then deceived by Satan (as Mormons still are).
