Mormonism and the Negro, p. 20 “We believe that God is our Creator, that He is an all-wise God, that He is concerned about the eternal welfare of all His Children, one as well as another. We believe that He is all-powerful, and controls in the destiny of mankind and all that pertains to it. We further believe in the concept of eternal progress: that as man is God once was, and as God is, man may become. (May become, not necessarily will become, for that would not make allowance for free agency. We may become like God, or we may become like Satan, or we may become something in between these two extremes.).” — John J. Stewart
1 Corinthians 15:10 “But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.”
Galatians 5:24 “And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
Matthew 6:24 “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Matthew 16:24 “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
The objective for a true child of God is to have his/her life hid in Christ. From the waking moment of each day, to the time we lie down to rest, the ultimate goal is to be one with Him. Anything outside of that is sin.
The goal of godhood is certainly out of the parameters of following Jesus, and points to how mankind has followed a different Christ, on a different path. You can’t deny yourself when you want to be a god. The desire to be a god indicates you don’t belong to Christ because you’ve not crucified your lusts of wanting the spotlight.
Mr. Stewart’s comment they may become like Satan, God, or something in between, has no place in the life of a true Christian.
While many members of the Church may never know of Mr. Stewart’s book, the references he used in his work are the basic doctrines of Mormonism. Please, pray for those who are still blinded to the true Jesus, and share the truth every chance you get!
With Love in Christ;
