December 16 — Alma’s Contempt for Fulfilled Prophecy. Micah 5:2 “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”
Matthew 2:1-2 “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”

The book of Micah was probably written c. BC 735 – 700. His prophecy about the Lord Jesus was written during a time when Israel had little to no hope in their daily lives. They had tolerated leaders, and prophets, who led them by lies, and a total disrespect of what God had already done for them. The prophet’s writings condemned those who were complicit in the lies, and reminded his people to take action.
Today we’re doing the same in our call for Mormons to condemn the lies of their leaders.
Everyone who’s familiar with Mormonism knows about the false prophecy in Alma seen below. Most have also heard the excuses that Jerusalem and Bethlehem are suburbs of each other, which they are not.
All that aside, the real issue here is rejecting God’s fulfilled promise!
If/when the Mormon you know tries to explain away the lie in Alma, share the truth of how this was prophesied more than 700 years beforehand. The importance of getting this right, is of the utmost import!
Another problem in Alma is the fact they don’t believe Jesus was conceived through the power of the Holy Spirit. We looked at the comment from one of their prophets just the other day when Ezra Taft Benson contradicted the ‘most correct book on the face of the earth’. See REJECTING GOD’S POWER.

Alma 7:10 “And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.”
