March 4 – LDS Missionaries Should be ‘Indoctrinated’. 2 Corinthians 10:5; “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
_____
Indoctrinate means to ‘accept a set of beliefs uncritically’. This would entail the submission to LDS teachings without questioning. Ask the Mormon for their opinion on Mr. Kimball’s mandate, and if they accept it.

Ensign, ‘When the World Will Be Converted,’ Oct. 1974, p. 8; “ When I ask for more missionaries, I am not asking for more testimony-barren or unworthy missionaries. I am asking that we start earlier and train our missionaries better… … I am asking for missionaries who have been carefully indoctrinated and trained through the family and the organizations of the Church, and who come to the mission with a great desire. … The question is frequently asked: Should every young man fill a mission? And the answer has been given by the Lord. It is “Yes.” Every young man should fill a mission.” – Spencer W. Kimball [emp. added]
Every young man? What kind of prophet was he? My LDS grandDAUGHTER went on a mission. 🙁 Shouldn’t that indoctrinating scalawag have said ‘every young person should serve a mission’?
Well I’m in no way defending him – he said this in 1974 and back in the day if a girl went on a mission it meant she wasn’t married which was really, really bad. It was shameful to her and her parents. I remember a young woman who was 21 and she cried at a sacrament meeting announcing she had received her call to go. I sat horrified hoping that I’d be married by the time I was 21.At the time I was 11-12 yrs. old.
IMHO he should’ve included everyone as you said but they think like Neanderthals. sigh…
Scalawag is a great term!!!
That says it all, doesn’t it?!?
boy does it ever!!!
And what if they’re not mentally/physically capable of serving???
Key word “EVERY”.
Thanks for your response. I remember girls didn’t go on missions…I had no desire to go. Ramifications, you know. I guess my point is that if the ‘church’ is/was true, girls should have always been encouraged to be missionaries. Didn’t the entire world need to hear Joe’s story? Wasn’t ‘every member a missionary’ one of their darling quotes? The church is so transparent and culturally opportunistic. Snake oil salesmen!
Amen sister!!!
I might add you were exhibiting a tad bit of rebellion to their cultish thinking! It’s a shame more members don’t act on this as you did.
Where did your granddaughter serve her mission? Is she still active today?
How long have you been out of the Church?
My granddaughter went to Kentucky/Spanish speaking mission. She is a true blue Mormon. Got married a few months after her return at not quite 21. During early covid days, she joined my Bible study partner and me on Zoom. I was so thrilled b/c she told me she didn’t know much about the Bible…..but it only lasted about five weeks and then she got busy with work and school in Lehi….no more time. You can imagine what my prayer is for her. I have been out of the church 35 yrs. I have been Christian for 17 yrs. It was not easy shaking the church and recognizing Jesus’ amazing sacrifice for a wretch like me. Thank you, Lord!
