Ensign, ‘Ordinances and Covenants’, August 2001 “Sacred ordinances and the divine authority to administer them did not begin with the Restoration of the gospel and the founding of the modern Church in 1830. The sacred ordinances of the gospel as requirements for salvation and exaltation were “instituted from before the foundation of the world.” They have always been an immutable part of the gospel. The Prophet Joseph Smith taught: “Ordinances instituted in the heavens before the foundation of the world, in the priesthood, for the salvation of men, are not to be altered or changed. All must be saved on the same principles.”6
If this were not the case, salvation would indeed be an arbitrary matter and would be restricted to those few who may have been fortunate enough to have heard of, and believed in, Jesus Christ.” — Dennis B. Neuenschwander
Matthew 5:17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
Today is our last day looking at a few things a GA said in a talk at BYU. Dennis B. Neuenschwander had many things to say about covenants and ordinances yet none of the things he said were true.
Our questions/thoughts about this portion are as follows —
If what Joe Smith said was true, why has the Church changed so many ‘immutable’ things?
Why have leaders of the Church not kicked Smith’s lies to the curb and denounced his unbiblical theories?
Moreover, why does the Church continue to portray itself as a Christian organization who believes the Bible?
Clearly, this man doesn’t believe Jesus’ declaration that He came to fulfill the Law! If he did, he would never teach that ordinances are necessary for salvation.
If you’re LDS we humbly ask that you read what Jesus had to say. There’s no doubt the Mormon people love the Lord but the question is this: which Jesus are you following?
The Jesus of the Bible declared ‘It is Finished’ in John 19:30. If you truly believe Jesus, by default you’d have to stop performing ordinances.
Please know that if you are LDS, we’re praying for you!
With Love in Christ —
Michelle

[…] The Erratic LDS Gospel Ordinances Talk by a GA declared ordinances never change. […]
😱H, the gaslighting!!! There are no “gospel ordinances”. See 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4, Romans 1:16, Romans 10:9-13…No Ordinances. If the ordinances are immutable then why the restoration.
If we had a nickel for every time they say ordinance we’d be rich, right Michelle? Or maybe turn it into a drinking game…every time a GA says ordinance in general conference, you have to take a shot. Just kidding 😄.
But that would be the only way to get through it.
amen to that one!
…..and I had just completely memorized all the handshakes, phooey. (Are those considered ordinances?) I know mormons love the idea of ‘doing’ everything the suits command. They feel special and included and above the detritus out there. So sad. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus paid it all.
PTL He did!!!
“The sacred ordinances of the gospel are a requirement for salvation and exaltation.”? Translation to the above cited quote is: If you ain’t LDS, you ain’t going qualified for salvation and exaltation. In other words, the Mormon church is God’s (ONLY) true church. Again, the missionaries seldom talk about the prideful exclusiveness of the Mormon church, just like they don’t talk about the importance of tithing and tithing settlement meetings, callings, home teaching, church cleanup, giving talks during church service (sacrament meetings), opening your home to late night visitors from the church, extra church meetings for everybody to attend, including those for priesthood holders, non priesthood holders, relief society only, married couples only, non married couples only, people with children and for couples without children, meetings to plan events and more meetings after that to plan for more events, get togethers for temple visits, get togethers before school to perform baptisms for the dead, boy scout meetings , bee hive and laurel meetings.
Bottom line, missionaries never discuss the realities involved in joining the Mormon church. In the Mormon church, everybody member is considered a missionary. Members never discuss the hard work involved in becoming a member of God’s Only True Church”(?) church. Why? Because they don’t want people to know about the Mormon God and how strict and unforgiving he can be when people don’t work hard enough for their salvation
.
What did God say about all this? ” know that a person is not justified by works of the Law (Mormon doctrine), but is justified by faith in Jesus Christ, so that we may be justified in Christ and not by works of the law (Mormon works), because by these works, nobody will be justified.” (Galatians 2:16)
I’m exhausted just from reading all the requirements you listed. Imagine the frustration for a Mormon today.
