October 15 –– Obeying Doctrines of Man v. Commandments of God. 1 Corinthians 15:33 “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”

There are many things leaders of the Church should not be involved with in your life. Today’s LDS reference is one of those. It’s also one of the times their teachings remind me of an abusive husband. As always, allow me to reiterate, I do NOT believe all Mormon men abuse their wives/children. Sadly, their controlling behavior reflects those who do. Your time on the phone is no one’s business but your own. Earlier in the same conference Russell Nelson also told people how, and where, they should be spending their time.
Beloved, His word tells us to spend our time worshiping the true God of the Bible, not obeying the whims of those who don’t. We see this in how Jesus told us the two greatest commandments are to worship God with all your heart, and to love your neighbor as yourself – Matthew 22:36-40. He also pointed out people worship Him in vain by teaching doctrines of man as commandments Matthew 15:9.

“My young sisters, and adult women, too, it will bless your lives if you limit your use of and dependence on cell phones.” – Dallin Oaks, General Conference, ‘Parents and Children,’ October 2018
Does the church ever use robocalls? If they do, how should a TBM handle such a dilemma? Probably a moot point but you get my drift.
A lot of people depend on their phones for work. So it may interfere with tithing. I wonder if they thought of that?
Off topic…I’ve been listening to an interview with John Larson, on “Mormon Stories Podcast”. He did a deep-dive into the pioneers heading to Utah. I knew it was bad but, man…It was really, really bad. And of course anything bad that happened wasn’t the “churches” fault.
We wrote about this several yrs ago! See Handcart Blame Game for more info. It was a shocking reminder of how awful Brigham was during his tenure. https://lifeafterministry.com/2014/07/handcart-blame-game/
My apologies, I miss spelled John Larsen’s name. It’s amazing anyone made it. And the Mormon Stories Podcast is titled ” The Willie and Martin Handcart”.
Any update on your health? Thanks.
