February 20 – Rejecting Mormonism Means Freedom, Not Apostasy. Col. 2:13 “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses”.

If you’re LDS, there are three sins you should never commit. Doing so incurs God’s wrath and total rejection upon you. They are blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, apostasy, and murder. Becoming an apostate means you’ve sinned against and have become an enemy of the Church. You can do this in a number of ways, however, the most widely used form of apostate means you speak out against the Church. The word ‘apostate’ is typically used by members in a derogatory manner as a slam against those who’ve chosen to speak out publicly against Mormonism.

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, p. 59 “The steps to apostasy are usually gradual. All members are counseled to guard against all manifestations of personal apostasy (DS 3:293-312; Asay, pp. 67-68). The most frequent causes of apostasy are failure to maintain strict standards of morality, taking personal offense (real or perceived), marrying someone who is of another faith or who is irreligious, neglecting to pray and maintain spirituality, or misunderstanding of the teachings of the Church. Apostasy may be accelerated by a faulty assumption that scripture or Church leaders are infallible.” – Gilbert W. Scharffs

It’s a huge red flag, if a “church” tells it’s members that people who leave are apostates. That’s yet another fundamental difference between Christianity and the LDS church. Just because someone chooses to attend another Christian church doesn’t make them any less Christian. It might be something as simple as they like the worship service better. Or it fits better with their work schedule, or maybe they’ve moved and don’t want to drive an extra half hour to church. All we care about is you’re being taught sound doctrine. A church isn’t what makes you Christian. I think we as Christians were reminded of this during the COVID lockdown. We don’t need a brick and mortar building to be Christians.

amen sister! Furthermore, does it mean members were no longer LDS if they couldn’t go to church?
Yikes. Apparently, I´m bad! Thank you, Lord, for showing me salvation comes through You alone….no handshakes, no green aprons, no tithing settlement…..just Jesus the Christ. Didn´t the church just come out in support of the Respect for Marriage act? It seems marrying someone of a different faith is worse than that. Hmmm.
Maybe they’re confused and forgot the part about not marrying outsiders? 😉 With all the things a member must do I always pray they’d stop to think…
