October 16 — Joseph Smith’s Threat: The Grease Spot Prophecy. Millennial Star, Vol. 22, No. 29, (December 16, 1843), p. 455 “I prophesied by virtue of the holy Priesthood vested in me, and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that, if Congress will not hear our petition and grant us protection, they shall be broken up as a government and God shall damn them, and there shall be nothing left of them – not even a grease spot!“.

2 Timothy 2:25-26 “In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”

That prophecy was made in December of 1843. It’s been 181 years since Smith made that claim and here, we are in 2024 putzin’ right along.
You can read this about this failure in the Joseph Smith Papers. This is just one of the 120 False Prophecies we have on our site.
Ask a Mormon for their opinion about this and what they think about any of the lies Smith told during his life.
