February 6 — Fundamentally Flawed. Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet “…Third fundamental: “The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet” (“Fourteen Fundamentals,” 27).
We learn a great lesson about this from the scriptures. In the times of Noah it was easier for the people to believe in the dead prophets, but it was difficult for them to believe in Noah. We know that because of their incredulity they did not survive the Flood (see Genesis 6–7).” — Ezra Taft Benson

Today we’re looking at part of a talk Ezra Taft Benson gave at BYU in 1980. If you’re thinking it sounds familiar, you’re right! We took a brief look at this last week in an article by Claudio Costa.
The reason for our look at this today is based on what Benson said and comparing it to what the Lord has to say!
Although Benson’s talk was egregious, there was one thing that stuck out when he said; ‘In the times of Noah it was easier for the people to believe in the dead prophets…’.
The first time the word prophet is used is in Genesis 20:7 —
‘Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.’ [emp. added]
Timing is everything as they say and it’s of great import for the lesson today.
According to Bible history websites Noah lived sometime before 2,500 BC. Abraham was born c. 1996 BC. See Biblehub.com and Amazingbibletimeline.com for starters.
Our question today is this –
Why should we follow their prophet when he can’t get the timing correct?
Ask the Mormon you know what they think!
With Love in Christ –
