August 9 — When I think about it, I don’t think I ever heard the word adversary used as much in a sentence as I did until after I joined the Mormon Church. Whether it was at a church meeting, a visit from home teachers, or visiting teachers, the adversary never failed to make an appearance on any given topic.
Who is the adversary according to Mormonism? It’s Satan, or the devil. When I was first learning about Mormonism, I was told in so many words that he hates anything having to do with Mormonism. He loved to cause trouble for Mormons and desperately wanted to lead them away from “the Church”. Anything or anyone who tries to lead someone away from the Church would be said to be influenced by the adversary.
I saw a post on a former Mormon’s Christian group on social media the other day. I can’t recall the topic of the post, but I do recall someone commenting that “God is the adversary of Mormonism”.
When I think about it, God could be considered an adversary to Mormonism, but not in the same evil context they would use the word. Does God want Mormonism to be led away from this church and to a relationship with Jesus? Yes.
Does he want to free them from the false doctrines that tell them they must work for their salvation? Yes.
Does he want them to look to the cross of Jesus Christ for their eternal salvation and not to the temple? Yes.
God hates anything that leads people to sin and away from His Son. Mormonism has led so many people on a path away from the truths found only in His Word. It has put lies in their hearts and minds, making them question what He has said, much like Satan did with Eve, asking, “Did God (really) say?”. If anything, Mormonism would be an adversary to God.
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to –
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
I pray for Mormons to put aside any negative feelings they may have about the Bible and just begin to read it. Maybe start with the book of John, read it without any reservations, and let God teach you who he truly is.
In Christ,

[…] Is God the Adversary of Mormonism? […]
Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.
That’d be a scary place to be.
