October 9 — We’ve pulled a handful of talks from the October GC and have a question for each of them. We pray that you’ll share these with a Mormon. If you’re LDS, please know that we ask from a deep concern for you personally and never out of animosity.
1.The Atoning Love of Jesus Christ “…beyond this mortal life, in our Father’s house, we will live with Him forever and ever. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” — Elder Neil L. Andersen
Question: How do you live with God ‘Forever and Ever’ if you’re working to become a god yourself? Joseph Smith said, “you have to learn to be gods yourself”. — TPJS, p. 345-346.
_____
2.The Good News Recipe “I testify that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. He has “accomplished everything we need to be able to return to [our] Heavenly Father.” In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” — Elder John D. Amos
Question: Why go to the temple to baptize dead people and take out endowments if Jesus accomplished everything?
_____
3.Jesus Christ and Your New Beginning “Our Saviour uttered one final understatement, without which there would be no cause for hope or rejoicing this day. After the agonies of Gethsemane and at the conclusion of the torturous cross, He simply said, “It is finished.” Messianic prophecy had been fulfilled, and the full payment of the debt for humanity’s sins and suffering had been paid.
He declared “finished” His infinite and eternal sacrifice. Yet His Atonement would not be complete until He Himself experienced new life on the third day, the new beginning, as a glorified, resurrected being through the power of the Father.” — Elder Patrick Kearon
Question: What is their true definition of finished? It obviously doesn’t mean what everyone else in the world knows it means.
_____
4.Go and Do Likewise “As we give service in Christ’s name to the one, we become increasingly holy and worthy of the gift of eternal life. Jesus Christ lives. He is my Savior and yours. He is our Redeemer. He is our great example of ministering. I invite each of us to go and do likewise. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” — Elder James E. Evanson
Question: How does serving others produce holiness? The Bible never gives us the idea that holiness means service. You can read a great article on this at The Gospel Coalition. Furthermore, we don’t become more worthy of salvation because of helping others. We are sinners in need of a Redeemer and can’t work for salvation! Ephesians 2:8-9.
_____
5.Look to God and Live “Few things will complicate your life more quickly than violating this divine law [of chastity]. For those who have made covenants with God, immorality is one of the quickest ways to lose your testimony.” — Elder D. Todd Christofferson
Question: What does your chastity have to do with the talks given at General Conference? Mr. Christofferson’s talk was about a group of people who had died in a car wreck. It seemed odd that after talking about the devastating loss he jumped right in with his chastity mantra.
Please pray for Jesus to intervene!
With Love in Christ —
