 October 2 — Translating the Book of Mormon w/ Hats & Stones. Ensign, “A Treasured Testament”, July 1993, p. 61 “The details of this miraculous method of translation are still not fully known. Yet we do have a few precious insights. David Whitmer wrote: “Joseph Smith would put the seer stone into a hat, and put his face in the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light; and in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear, and on that appeared the writing. One character at a time would appear, and under it was the interpretation in English. Brother Joseph would read off the English to Oliver Cowdery, who was his principal scribe, and when it was written down and repeated to Brother Joseph to see if it was correct, then it would disappear, and another character with the interpretation would appear. Isaiah 45:22 “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”

One of my all time favorite Christmas songs is ‘O, Holy Night’.  The words, ‘fall on  your knees’, reminds us of what it says in Matthew 2:11 when the wise men fell down to worship the newborn King of Israel. The song’s four simple words commands attention of all who hear the words.

As I’ve reflected on that song this holiday season, my thoughts also go to the numerous times the Church has brazenly touted Joe Smith’s use of occult methods in producing the Book of Mormon. Their list of articles is exhaustive… Today we’re taking a quick look at how the Church methodically chronicles Mormon historical events without giving any new revelations, nor do they provide any info on their church’s namesake, that being Jesus.
