Leviticus 19:31; “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.”

While looking for a reference on something that has nothing to do with our topic today, I came across Bruce R. McConkie’s definition for ‘crystal balls’. As it turned out, I had also just read a portion of the Church’s Comprehensive History explaining how Smith had used peep stones he put in his hat to translate the Book of Mormon.

Long story short, check out the info I retrieved on our topic today. I have to say that I’ve always found it fascinating the Church never has a problem with providing how they went about tricking people. In many ways, it’s downright scary, and should give members pause as they read their own history.

In 1826 Joseph Smith was arrested for ‘glass-looking’, a form of fortune-telling, and at the time was illegal. For more info, see Joseph Smith’s Witchcraft, Scrying and Arrest 1820 – 1827.
