An article in the Church’s Liahona Magazine (February 2021) highlighted the importance of David Whitmer who was one of the original three witnesses to the BoM. dieter uchtdorfToday we’re exploring a talk from the 2014 LDS General Conference, given by LDS apostle Dieter Uchtdorf. 

The reason why I’m honing in on this particular talk is twofold. Melissa sent me a quote from what Mr. Uchtdorf said which caused me to follow the link she provided…simple stuff I know!

The other reason stems from my findings of his material after giving it a cursory glance. So my plan here is to look at some of the key things he said and as always, I have a few questions!  Overall, I found the words of this man were nothing more than the same stuff, different day.

Mormon Decisions 10Journal of Discourses 3:247; “Watch yourselves and think. As I observed, on the evening of the 14th at the social Hall, ‘think brethren, think,’ but do not think so far that you cannot think back again… In the eastern country there was a man who used to go crazy, at times, and then come to his senses again. Book of Mormon Witnesses

When I was a member of the Church I honestly never thought about checking up on the witnesses of the Book of Mormon.  I grew up believing that I belonged to “the only true church on the face of the earth” and even though there were teachings about the Church I didn’t agree with, it never occurred to me they didn’t have physical proof for the Book of Mormon.
