Journal of Discourses 11:221; “Where did this commandment come from in relation to polygamy? It also came from God…When this system was first introduced among this people, it was one of the greatest crosses that ever was taken up by any set of men since the world stood…When I see any of our people, men or women, opposing a principle of this kind, I have years ago set them down as on the high road to apostacy, and I do to-day; I consider them apostates…” – John Taylor, Salt Lake City, April 7, 1866
1 Kings 11:4-6; “For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.”
If being a Mormon apostate means obeying God, I’ll take the latter and my choice of religions be damned.
There’s nothing on the face of this earth that should draw us away from God and His commandments. He told the Israelites in the days of Moses that collecting wives wasn’t in His plan because it’d only bring heartache and trouble for all involved – Deut 17:14-20, Lev 18:18.
Ironically, God also gave the Israelites a warning that Mormons have totally ignored and you can see this each time you speak with them. God told the Israelites in Deut 28:13, 65-68 that if they didn’t obey His commandments He would curse them. He warned them their hearts would never be at ease by not having assurance of their lives.
I’ve never met a Mormon who’s been able to tell me that they’re certain they are saved – 100% of the time they him-haw around trying to come up with an excuse they hope they’re going to heaven, but alas, no one really has that assurance.
And lastly…the idea that Mormon polygamy is the greatest cross known to mankind is so palpably false it doesn’t deserve our attention outside of that. Shame, shame, shame, shame, shame.
