“Minutes of the Meeting of the Council of the Twelve in Historian’s Upper Room,” April 5, 1860, 10 a.m; “I have heard brother Brigham say that Adam is the Father of our spirits, and he came here with his resurrected body, to fall for his own children; and I said to him, it leads to an endless number of falls, which leads to sorrow and death: that is revolting to my feelings, even if it were not sustained by revelation.” – Orson Pratt
Adam-God Theory is not True
LeGrand Richards, Letter, dated May 11, 1966; “Your third question: ‘Is the Adam-God Doctrine, as taught in the Journal of Discourses, true?’ Answer: No.”
Romans 16:17-18; “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”
If these so-called prophets of God can’t agree amongst themselves on such important matters, why would you place your salvation in their hands?
We have so many comforting passages in God’s word where His apostles, prophets and teachers remind us to only follow His words that He spoke through His servants. Placing yourself in any other scenario is guaranteed to bring sorrow, misery and breaking covenant with God. Paul referred to this as trucebreakers in Romans. It’s the worst of the worst.
Besides all that I do believe it’s the first time I’d have to agree with Orson Pratt. It’s a rare occurrence for sure; Brigham’s teachings do lead to sorrow and death.
