United States to be Overthrown/Potsherd Prophecy
Latter-day Prophets Speak – Selections from the Sermons and Writing of Church Presidents; “I prophesy, in the name of the Lord God of Israel, unless the United States redress the wrongs committed upon the Saints in the State of Missouri and punish the crimes committed by officers, that in a few years the government will be utterly overthrown and wasted, and there will not be so much as a potsherd left for their wickedness in permitting the murder of men, women and children, and the wholesale plunder and extermination of thousands of her citizens to go unpunished, thereby perpetrating a foul and corroding blot upon the fair fame of this great republic, the very thought of which would have caused the high-minded and patriotic framers of the Constitution of the United States to hide their faces with shame.
-Joseph Smith, Jr., “Historical Record,” p. 514, May 18, 1843.”
2 Thessalonians 1:4-5; “So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer.”
This is known as the “Potsherd Prophecy” and it is obviously false. Smith made this prophecy in response to getting kicked out of Missouri. As you can see he made this prophecy in 1843. At the time of this writing it is June 14, 2010 – 167 years later.

Here Smith actually says,” I prophesy,…” so it is easily seen that this is false. What more do they need?
People should not try to judge things. It never works out. First of all, what is the timing of this prophecy. It gives nothing specific, and when it comes to God and his will it is dangerous to assume anything.
Secondly, there was types of redresses made, partly through the hiring of the saints in the Mexican war, and through other things, such as formal apologies, and the retracting of certain laws.
Are you going to declare that you know the mind of God and know what he considers redress, and that you can dictate what his time frame is.
The United states was not completely destroyed, but it did suffer the wrath of God, primarily through war (like the Civil War). It was not destroyed because sufficient redress was made to stem that tide, though not enough to turn the anger of the Lord away completely.
