Answers to Gospel Questions 3:123; “When the Lamanites fully repent and sincerely receive the gospel, the Lord has promised to remove the dark skin…
The dark skin of those who have come into the Church is no longer to be considered a sign of the curse. Many of these converts are delightsome and have the Spirit of the Lord. Perhaps there are some Lamanites today who are losing the dark pigment. Many of the members of the Church among the Catawba Indians of the South could readily pass as of the white race…” – Joseph Fielding Smith
1 Corinthians 14:33; “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
The dark skin was supposedly put upon people because of their sin.
If the Church said the curse is gone why are there people in Mormonism who are still dark? Why didn’t they immediately turn “white & delightsome”?
My skin tone, hair and eyes were the same color on June 1, 1978 as it was on May 31, 1978. I had done nothing different than I’d done the day before. I woke up on June 8th and read in the paper the Mormon god liked me, whereas the day before the LDS prophet received his “revelation” I was decidedly a rebel in the pre-existence and someone who was lesser of a person because of my past behavior.
The “Lamanites” this prophet was speaking of were from the Navajo tribe and had been part of the Indian Placement Program. It was a self fulfilling prophecy that Native Americans would turn white when they repent and God accepts them into the fold.
Mormons went out and adopted Navajo babies, raised them in the homes of Caucasian people in the hopes they would marry white people, have babies and their posterity would be lighter than the Navajo parent.
This is also classified as a false prophecy because earlier prophets said God wouldn’t remove that dark skinned curse until every single person in the world had been born. After that happened, God would remove the curse and people would once again be white.
