Sterling M. McMurrin affidavit, March 6, 1979. David O. See McKay and The Rise of Modern Mormonism by Greg Prince and William Robert Wright; “There is not now, and there never has been a doctrine in this church that the Negroes are under a divine curse. There is no doctrine in the church of any kind pertaining to the Negro. We believe that we have a scriptural precedent for withholding the priesthood from the Negro. It is a practice, not a doctrine, and the practice someday will be changed. And that’s all there is to it.” – David O. McKay
Gospel Kingdom, pg 103; “…And then the devil put on a long face and said, I imagined I had got rid of these fellows; but they are going to have a chance yet that I did not think of. And after the flood we are told that the curse that had been pronounced upon Cain was continued through Ham’s wife, as he had married a wife of that seed. And why did it pass through the flood? Because it was necessary that the devil should have a representation upon the earth as well as God.” – John Taylor. 3rd LDS Prophet
Abraham 1:23–24; “The land of Egypt being first discovered by a woman, who was the daughter of Ham, and the daughter of Egyptus, which in the Chaldean signifies Egypt, which signifies that which is forbidden; 24 When this woman discovered the land it was under water, who afterward settled her sons in it; and thus, from Ham, sprang that race which preserved the curse in the land.”
We’re going to forego all the false prophecies from the lies in the Book of Abraham today. I’ve used it as proof they have indeed taught it as doctrine.
When I read the affidavit signed, sealed and delivered by Mr. McMurrin I just about fell out of my chair. Mr. McMurrin was a devout Mormon whose grandfather founded the Deseret Livestock Company. His paternal grandfather served with BH Roberts in the Quorum of the Seventies. Mr. McMurrin served as the US Commissioner of Education under John Kennedy and was a distinguished professor, dean and provost at the University of Utah. He had numerous degrees in philosophy, history and the history of philosophy. He’s obviously not a novice in the world of Mormonism.
In an interview with the Sunstone Symposium he even spoke of being an LDS Seminary teacher.
So with this man’s credentials behind us now we can fully appreciate the weight of his statement and compare it with reality.
I suppose that he’s saying the Book of Abraham isn’t doctrine. If it’s not doctrine how can it be inspired scripture?
Does this mean their prophet John Taylor was wrong in saying the devil needed a rep on earth so the black people were spared during the flood?
And they wonder why the body of Christ denounces their doctrines…it was bad enough they taught these things and then to lie about it doesn’t make it all better sir.
