Waiting for World’s End: The Diaries of Wilford Woodruff, edited by Susan Staker, Signature Books, 1993, pg 305; “Again Presdet Young said Joseph the Prophet told me that the garden of Eden was in Jackson Co Missouri, & when Adam was driven out of the garden of Eden He went about 40 miles to the Place which we Named Adam Ondi Ahman, & there built an Altar of Stone & offered Sacrifize. That Altar remains to this day. I saw it as Adam left it as did many others, & through all the revolutions of the world that Altar had not been disturbed. Joseph also said that when the City of Enoch fled & was translated it was whare the gulf of Mexico now is. It left that gulf a body of water.” – Wilford Woodruff
1 Timothy 1:4-6; “Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. 5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling.”
Does this sound like something our Lord would do? Is there anything in the Bible at all that reflects such an event as this?
How does a city flee? This story has the resemblance of another fable known as Atlantis.
The Apostle Paul warned Timothy of what to watch out for while he labored for Christ in Ephesus and we need to apply his wise counsel to our lives today! Paul’s pastoral letters gave the young church leader wisdom for how the church should be run and if we think this counsel only applied to their circumstances, we’d be sorely mistaken. Sadly, the same shenanigans are played out today. Satan has nothing new to offer and his only objective is for believers to take their eyes off Jesus so He doesn’t receive glory or honor.
Why were these grown men chasing after the wild stories of Joseph Smith? Wilford Woodruff was the 4th prophet of the LDS Church so he wasn’t just some bystander or low level member giving his opinion on this matter. Clearly, he wasn’t following the exhortation of Paul!
The journals of the early church leaders are enlightening as they provide the backdrop to what Mormon scripture really means.
