Conference Report, April 1939, Second Day – Morning Meeting, pg 59; “PUNISHMENT OF THOSE NOT VALIANT. The negro is an unfortunate man. He has been given a black skin. But that is as nothing compared with that greater handicap that he is not permitted to receive the Priesthood and the ordinances of the temple, necessary to prepare men and women to enter into and enjoy a fulness of glory in the celestial kingdom. What is the reason…We are told that Michael and his angels fought, and we understand that we stood with Christ our Lord, on the platform, “Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine forever.” I cannot conceive our Father consigning his children to a condition such as that of the negro race, if they had been valiant in the spirit world in that war in heaven…Somewhere along the line were these spirits, indifferent perhaps, and possibly neutral in the war.” – George F. Richards
Acts 7:25-26; “Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;”
Oh if I could take just one teaching of the Church to show people how wrong they are this would be the one.
For more than 30 years I looked down on myself because of my coloring. I felt inferior, stupid, out of place and not worthy of being around other people if they were all white. It was no surprise that this wrong thinking carried itself over into my life even after I got saved.
Two years after I accepted the Lord (I was 30 when I got saved) it finally dawned on me Jesus probably wasn’t white either. Duh…
All that to say I just don’t get how non-white Mormons justify the teachings of the LDS Church. I don’t understand the excuses given to LDS Church leaders for teaching what they did back then, not to mention now.
God loves you so much! He created you the color you are on purpose and it didn’t come about because of any behavioral problem they say you had. Besides the fact there’s no such thing as a pre-existence, it’s also a lie that you’re being punished for something.
If we’re the color we are because of behavior then what bad thing did Jesus do? How could a man born to a mother who was a Hebrew from the Middle East be born white? Logic tells us it probably didn’t turn out that way. Archaeological finds and historical writings tell us the Israelites weren’t white then just as they aren’t now.
