Sunstone Panel Discussion, September 7, 1991; “Women are queens and priestesses but not gods. The Godhead, the ‘Presidency of Heaven,’ is a presidency of three male deities, similar to a stake presidency whose members each have wives who are responsible for domestic religious education but not ecclesiastical functions.” – BYU Religion Professor, Rodney Turner
Romans 1:20-23; “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.”
I’m always reminded of Paul’s words in Romans when I think of Mormon godhood. They worshipped the creature instead of the Creator…it’s so simple and obvious when we know the Lord! Alas, this isn’t the case if you’re LDS and I remember that well.
Again, we’re dealing with a polytheistic view of God. Believing that more than one god exists means you’re a polytheist.
The other problem in what this professor had to say is kind of subtle but worthy of mention. He said that the godhead with the “three male deities is like a stake presidency whose members each have wives”.
Yep, you read that correctly! This means they believe polygamy will be alive and well in heaven. Each god or deity will have their own set of wives.
If you think this went away at the turn of the 20th century you might want to rethink that theory. Check out the date – it was 1991.
Subtle, like the serpent.
You got that right. I didn’t realize just how shrouded their words like these are until after I left and now looking back is nothing short of shocking.
