Miracle of Forgiveness, pg 357; “The Lord will indeed forgive, but he will not tolerate repetitions of the sin.” – Spencer W. Kimball
Repentance Brings Forgiveness, pg 7; “The forsaking of sins must be a permanent one. True repentance does not permit making the same mistake again.” “The Lord said, ‘Go your way and sin no more; but unto that soul who sineth shall the former sins return.’ (D&C 82:7).” – Spencer W. Kimball
1 John 1:9; “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Romans 7:14-15; “For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.”
Nowhere in the Bible does it say God won’t forgive us if we make the same mistake twice! He knows us and knows we’re going to mess up – this is why He gave His Son for a sacrifice for those sins!
If it was true that God won’t forgive us twice then why did He inspire the Apostle Paul to write Romans chapter 7? What does that chapter mean in light of what the Mormon prophet Spencer Kimball had to say?
Paul of all people knew the Law and what goes on in the heart of mankind – he was a Pharisee when he got saved! He argued that we need Jesus’ atoning sacrifice in our lives because of the internal struggle we all face. Why do I do the things I know I don’t want to do? Being born with a sin nature we’re all subject to this dilemma, but as we hold fast to Christ we know where to go for help!
