The Seer p 159; “One thing is certain, that there were several holy women that greatly loved Jesus — such as Mary, and Martha her sister, and Mary Magdalene; and Jesus greatly loved them, and associated with them much; and when He arose from the dead, instead of showing Himself to His chosen witnesses, the Apostles, He appeared first to these women, or at least to one of them — namely, Mary Magdalene. Now it would be natural for a husband in the resurrection to appear first to his own dear wives, and afterwards show himself to his other friends. If all the acts of Jesus were written, we no doubt should learn that these beloved women were His wives” – Orson Pratt, LDS Apostle
John 20:14-16; “And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. 16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master”.
For a moment let’s pretend that Jesus was a polygamist. (Oh dear Jesus forgive me…ugh…) Can you just imagine Jesus hittin’ on a bunch of women? Why would our God do such a thing?
Now the reason I chose the biblical passage I did is because Mormons will use this as another proof that Mary must have been His wife because she addressed Him as ‘Master’ and this is what wives called their husbands back in the day.
Our response to this is to ask the Mormon if Jesus was married to Peter. Peter called Jesus Master in Mark 9:5 and Mark 11:21.
Was Jesus married to Judas? Judas called Jesus Master when he betrayed Him in the Garden of Gethsemane. Mark 14:45.
What about Nathaniel in John 1:49 or Nicodemus in John 3:2 or the disciples who said ‘Master, eat’ in John 4:31? Was Jesus married to them?
The transliteration for Master is didaskalos. In Strong’s Concordance it’s #1320. It means teacher and is used 40 times in the NT when referring to Jesus and another 18 times in context for other people.
To even entertain the idea that Jesus was married is obscene and nothing short of heretical! This false ideology keeps getting regurgitated from one generation to the next. Sadly, we all had the misfortune of seeing it again in Dan Brown’s nonsense beginning with the Da Vinci Code.
Disgusting.
