Journal of Discourses 6:29; “Do you suppose that God in person called upon Joseph Smith, our Prophet? God called upon him; but God did not come himself and call, but he sent Peter to do it. Do you not see? He sent Peter and sent Moroni to Joseph, and told him that he had got the plates. Did God come himself? No: he sent Moroni and told him there was a record…” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, November 8, 1857
Exodus 23:1; “Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.”
Who was it that visited Smith that fateful night? Was it God, Jesus, Nephi, Moroni or Peter?
Kimball just so happened to sin twice in this sermon.
He lied about Smith being visited by someone sent of God.
He was a witness for someone who was wicked.
According to the Church there are at least eleven versions of that first vision and each one was different so who or what should you believe?
In the Pearl of Great Price we find Joseph Smith’s History which tells us he went to the woods to pray and during his prayers, God and Jesus appeared to him. Joseph Smith History 1:18-19
If you’re LDS, what are your thoughts on this?
Somewhere in my files at the Special Collections library [#210] at Utah State is a Brochure handed out when the SLC Temple opened in 1983. In it, it clearly names the Angel on top as Nephi.. Now it is Moroni…. but fear not, God, Jesus, Peter, James, John and John the Baptist along with Moroni are all among the heavenly visitors who descended upon our young prophet.. Weren’t Moses and what’shisname in that crowd somewhere? Can’t remember
