Journal of Discourses 6:126; “Jesus said to his disciples, “Ye are the salt of the earth; and if the salt loses its saving principle, it is then good for nothing but to be cast out.” Instead of reading it just as it is, almost all of you read it just as it is not. Jesus meant to say, “If you have lost the saving principles, you Twelve Apostles, and you that believe in my servants the Twelve, you shall be like unto the salt that has lost its saving principles: it is henceforth good for nothing but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.” Judas lost that saving principle, and they took him and killed him. It is said in the Bible that his bowels gushed out; but they actually kicked him until his bowels came out.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, December 13, 1857
Matthew 5:13, 27:5, 9-10; “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 27:5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. 9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; 10 And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.”
Wow.
When I think upon some of the awful things these men said it makes my heart weep. I so loved my church as it enveloped every aspect of who I was and for that reason I mourned. While I still mourn, it’s not for me. I mourn for those who are still ensnared in this awful web of lies.
In one of the most pivotal events in all of history Mr. Kimball has taken our Lord’s words and lied; of this there is no doubt.
How could anyone who’s a true believer say ‘Jesus meant to say’? The audacity of such an action makes me shudder!
Judas’ suicide and betrayal of Jesus was foretold in Zechariah 11:12-13, Jeremiah 19:6-7 and Psalm 41:9 to name just a few.
“And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. 13 And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.” – Zechariah
“Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter. 7 And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.” – Jeremiah
“Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.” – Psalms
Mr. Kimball was actually referring back to the infamous remake of the ‘Salt Sermon’ given by Sidney Rigdon in 1838. The Church was being turned inside out by dissenters in Far West, MO and Rigdon delivered an impassioned sermon warning those who were against the Church had 24 hours to evacuate or else.
Apparently Mr. Kimball knew of some other would-be troublemakers in Utah and reminded them of Rigdon’s stern warning.
The other huge problem in Kimball’s sermon is biblical context.
Wherever did they come up with the idea the apostles kicked Judas until his bowels gushed out? What is wrong with these men? This isn’t remotely close to what happened! Judas went to the potter’s field and hanged himself. Where does it intimate the apostles murdered him?
Just think he could’ve taken that opportunity of being behind a pulpit and taught the people about the things Jeremiah prophesied! God told them that valley would no longer be known as Hinnom. Did you know the valley of the son of Hinnom was where the altars of Ba’al were located? This is where child sacrifices were made. Jer. 19:4 – the valley of blood is how the Israelites referred to it.
Jesus used the place as an illustration of ‘Gehenna’ or hell.
Or he could’ve taught them about the verse in Psalm 41:9. He could’ve pointed out these were all signs of Jesus’ arrival which should give us the assurance that God provided the long awaited Savior!
For more info on this see the Reed Peck Manuscript, pp 26-27. Reed Peck left the Church around 1838 and wrote a scathing report on his experiences while in Mormonism. Originally, his parents joined in NY and converted their kids.
Reed Peck Manuscript, pp 26-27; “Joseph Smith in a Short speech Sanctioned what had been Said by Rigdon though said he I don’t want the brethren to act unlawfully but [ 26 ]will tell them one thing Judas was a traitor and instead of hanging himself was hung by Peter, and with this hint the subject was dropped for the day having created a great excitement and prepared the people to execute anything that should be proposed.
On the next Tuesday these dissenters as they were termed were informed that preparations were being made to hang them up and if they did not escape their lives would be taken before night, and perceiving the rage of their enemies they fled to Ray County leaving their families and [ 27 ]property in the hands of the Mormons…” – Reed Peck, 1839
Hmmm, if Jesus really meant for Peter to hang Judas, or for any of them to harm him, do really think He would have scolded Peter for cutting off an ear?
Good point!
What strange corruptions. I thank you for bringing all this out into the open.
You’re welcome. I praise God people are seeing the truth and turning to Jesus – PTL!
