I found today’s dilemma online at a website called ‘LDS Pamphlet Library’. While the purpose of this site is self explanatory what I found interesting is the mindset of the site’s owner and how or why he chose which LDS pamphlet to list on his site.
It’s easy to see the adoration most members hold for Joseph Smith and this example is no different. One of the pamphlets listed on this site was an outright slobber-fest for the wonderful ways Joe Smith led people into worshiping a false god.
Originally written in 1900, the author of ‘Contributions of Joseph Smith’ was Stephen L. Richards who was an LDS apostle from 1917 to the time of his death in 1959.
Here in part is what this LDS pamphlet had to say. After each headline listed a lengthy explanation of Smith’s ingenious transformation of Christianity is offered. For the sake of brevity I’ve only listed the content one of those headlines below.
“I shall attempt to enumerate briefly the unique and distinctive contributions of Joseph Smith…
First Vision Brought Certainty of the Godhead …
Character of the Holy Ghost …
New Concept of the Priesthood …
New and Continuous Revelation …
State of Man …
New Concept of Human Body …
Family of God Exaltation of Man …
Temples and Work for the Dead …
Sealing of Husband and Wife …
New Church Organization and Practice …
Writer and Philosopher …
Praise the Prophet …
Today we proclaim him Prophet and sing his praise as sincerely, as devoutly, as reverently as they did more than one hundred years ago when they sat in his presence and felt the inspiration of his influence and heard the word of God from his lips.Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus anointed that Prophet and Seer,
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.
—LDS Hymns, no. 147”Note: the reference they gave above for their ‘Praise to the Man’ hymn is wrong. The correct reference is Hymn #27. Here’s the link –
As always, we’re asking that Christians pray for these dear people! We don’t publish these things to mock or ridicule the Mormons and quite frankly I don’t have neither the time, nor the patience for such things. Our hearts grieve for the Mormon people and we pray they come to a saving knowledge of the real Jesus of the Bible!
