2014 Judas bargaining with chief priests Lippo Memmi 14th CAt Christmas time, whom do you worship?

Zechariah 11:12-13a; “And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. 13 And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.”

Matthew 26:14-15; “Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, 15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.”

salt-lake-temple-black-and-whiteEarlier this year we looked at the definition for different types of worship, and saw how the Church erroneously uses the term. (See Ancestor Worship or Temple Worship.) Along those same lines, I just finished a study on the different ways world leaders (the bad kind) have used worship as a means to control the masses.

As history has shown, bad leaders share a common trait in the way they trick people into believing that if it weren’t for the leader, there’d be no salvation for them in heaven. They’ll demand, and/or convince people to worship an image, without drawing too much attention to themselves. However, everyone knows they’re worshiping the leader.

Witnessing Tip of the Day FebruaryFebruary 9 – Joseph Smith, Your God. Philippians 3:17-20; “Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.  18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)  20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Deseret_Store_-_with_Tithing_Office_and_Deseret_News_addition“‘Millions Shall Know “Brother Joseph” Again’: Witnesses of the Prophet’s Divine Role and Mission,” Selections from the Religious Education Student Symposium 2005 (Provo, UT: Religious Studies Center, Brigham Young University, 2005), 199–211; “…The man who taught, expounded, organized, preached, clarified, established, restored—basically did “more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it” (D&C 135:3)—certainly deserves the vast collection of tomes and our attention. The two-hundredth anniversary celebration should not only dwell on his life or who he was, but also focus on what he was…

…the Savior Himself contributes to the dialogue, establishing the final word on the matter that Joseph is His prophet. Combined, these three witnesses—the Prophet, those who knew him, and the Lord—serve to fulfill the law Paul describes in 2 Corinthians 13:1: “In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.” – Philip R. Webb

Deseret_Store_-_with_Tithing_Office_and_Deseret_News_additionToday we’re beginning a two part series on how vitally important Joseph Smith is to the corporation of the LDS Church, and the necessity of having him as the focus of everyday life for each member. Without Joseph Smith, members would have no means of gaining true salvation, and without Joseph Smith, the Church as a corporation would have no foundational basis to stand on.

The reason we’re doing this stems from the numerous articles they’ve published as of late. While perusing  their many media portals, magazines and websites for example, we couldn’t help but notice their heavy emphasis on commemorating Smith’s birth (December 23, 1805), while merely giving Jesus an honorable mention on occasion; when, or if needed.

Today’s example serves as a culmination of sorts, for all the many adjectives they believe Smith fulfilled by just being born. Before we look at the many ways Smith fulfilled most of the promises in the Bible, let’s step back and look at what God has to say about Himself.

LDS_HymnbookMusic can be a powerful thing in life. Depending on the genre, it can stir the emotional plane in people like nothing else can. A quick look at early history from the Bible reveals hymns to worship God, and in the 18th to 19th centuries we saw the symphonic/chamber era with Chopin, Liszt, Bach, and Mozart.

The personal lives of many composers at the time were considered over the top by standards of the day, but people turned a blind eye because of the role music played on their emotions. If they thought those actions were outrageous, they’d have a coronary in what we hear today.

LDS Pamphlets Contr_of_Joseph_SmithI found today’s dilemma online at a website called ‘LDS Pamphlet Library’. While the purpose of this site is self explanatory what I found interesting is the mindset of the site’s owner and how or why he chose which LDS pamphlet to list on his site.

It’s easy to see the adoration most members hold for Joseph Smith and this example is no different. One of the pamphlets listed on this site was an outright slobber-fest for the wonderful ways Joe Smith led people into worshiping a false god.

Mormon Decisions 10New Era, ‘Singing the Distance’, by Janet Thomas, Jan. 2000, 12; “… seminary students from Pleasant Grove, Utah, started a marathon. It would take them more than 13 hours to complete. There was no running involved—just singing. Lots and lots of singing. The seminary students were attempting to sing every hymn in the hymnbook in a single day… Another meaningful hymn to the group was “A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief.” Brett Munden said, “I love that song because when I sing it I think of Joseph Smith in Carthage Jail. He asked John Taylor to sing that song for him. It’s my favorite hymn because it was Joseph’s favorite.”…
