Mormon-owned Marriott against anti-gay-marriage law? Hardly a surprise
“JANUARY 29, 2013
The Times describes Marriott’s 2012 interview with Business Insider in which the hotel titan said that “he personally believed that marriage was between a man and a woman” but does not impose his religious views on the business…“Our church is very much opposed to alcohol and we’re probably one of the biggest sales engines of liquor in the United States. I don’t drink. We serve a lot of liquor.
Peggy Fletcher Stack”
Ensign, ‘Brother’s Keeper,’ November 1986; “…some who profess to be Christians seek to earn their living by systematically victimizing their neighbors. Some seize wealth by trafficking in illegal drugs or pornography. Traders in these products enrich themselves by transactions that ruin the bodies, minds, or morals of their customers. Followers of Christ have the moral responsibility of earning their livings and conducting their financial transactions in ways that are consistent with the principles of the gospel and the teachings of the Savior. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should not be involved in employment or other activities upon which they cannot conscientiously ask the blessings of the Lord.
Christian standards should also apply to those who earn a living by selling or advertising products in the marketplace.” – Dallin Oaks
Exodus 23:2; “Neither shall you allege the example of the many as an excuse for doing wrong.” — God
From 1997 to 2011 Mr. Marriott served in the Church as an Area Authority. Area Authorities fill in the layer of the pyramid between General Authorities and local wards (congregations) of the Church.
I’m wondering…
Why doesn’t the Church have a problem taking this guy’s tithe?
Why is this man in a senior church leadership position?
How can he sit as a judge and moral leader of those below him in Mormonism and not question his own private life?
If he’s responsible for being the nation’s largest booze distributor, how does that line up with what the apostle Dallin Oaks said?
While words on a page can’t give a true picture of who someone is, his comment about the alcohol sounds like he’s bragging. Would he be willing to say such a thing when face to face with Jesus?
‘Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.’ – Abraham Lincoln
Just like the Watchtower Society (Jehovah’s Witnesses) and Michael Jackson. It’s all about money, money, money. . .
