Journal of Discourses 5:328 – 329; “Keep your spirits under the sole control of good spirits, and they will make your tabernacles honourable in the presence of God, angels, and men. If you will always keep your spirits in right subjection, you will be watching all the time, and never suffer yourselves to commit an act that you will be sorry for, and you can see that in all your life you are clear. Do not do anything that you will be sorry for.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 7, 1857
Romans 8:14; “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
Subjecting your spirit to anything other than the Holy Spirit is playing spiritual Russian-roulette.
The Bible tells us there are many ways the Holy Spirit communicates with and guides us, therefore, following, listening to, or subjecting yourself to anything outside that parameter is simply not a godly thing to do and just downright dangerous.
Let’s look at a few job descriptions of God’s Holy Spirit –
John 14:26 – He teaches us
John 16:13 – He guides us
Romans 8:25-27 – He intercedes on our behalf, helps us in our weakness, searches our hearts
Philippians 2:1 – We have fellowship with Him
2 Corinthians 13:14 – We have communion with Him
God would never teach us to place ourselves under the direction of another spirit. In fact, His word tells us that doing so is dangerous because demons can perform miracles, making themselves out to be angels of light. (2 Corinthians 11:14-15)
The Bible also says Satan and his cohorts sponsor false doctrines (1 Tim 4:1), attack Christianity (1 Peter 5:8), and the malign the work of God (2 Thessalonians 2:4).
If you’re a Christian you don’t think about following other spirits because all your devotion and attention is reserved solely for God. Clearly, the teachings of this man aren’t from the Lord or he wouldn’t have instructed people to do this.
