Church Handbook of Instructions, Vol. I, p. 78; “Bishops and their counselors must take exceptional care when issuing recommends to members whose parents or other close relatives belong to or sympathize with apostate groups. Such members must demonstrate clearly that they repudiate these apostate religious teachings before they may be issued a recommend.”
Luke 15:22-24; “But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.”
Everyone knows the story of the prodigal son and the hope it’s brought to those who’ve walked in that father’s shoes.
Are we to shun those who aren’t following Jesus, or are we called to pray for them while we hold all thoughts captive to Jesus? 2 Cor 10:5
We’re wondering…
Why is someone not deemed worthy enough to be in the temple if their relatives aren’t worthy?
Why does the Church feel they must micro-manage everyone’s lives when quite frankly, it’s none of their business?
Wouldn’t God know who’s worthy enough to enter the temple?
Are you willing to ditch the family for a piece of paper deeming your worthiness? It seems self-righteous and sanctimonious.
Lastly, if this is so important, why prey tell does the Church keep this so secret? This handbook isn’t available to everyone in the Church. In 2006 it was leaked to Wikimedia and they published it verbatim.
When the Church caught wind of it, they sued Wikimedia for infringement of copyright laws, but lost their suit on the basis of the Freedom of Information Act. You can download the PDF from their website in the link above.
