General Conference, , “The Doctrine of Christ“, April 2012; “…it should be remembered that not every statement made by a Church leader,
past or present, necessarily constitutes doctrine. It is commonly understood in the Church that a statement made by one leader on a single occasion often represents a personal, though well-considered, opinion, not meant to be official or binding for the whole Church.”
Apostle D. Todd Christofferson
Ephesians 4:14; “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”
This man’s statement might be trustworthy if he were referring to leaders who are engaged in a simple conversation amongst themselves.
However, and it’s a big however, this doesn’t apply when the leader is standing behind a pulpit while giving a sermon to a world-wide audience.
The takeaway on teachings like this is tragic. Having no confidence, and second-guessing men of God is one of the biggest issues we deal with in the ministry as people leave the Church to begin their life in Christ. It takes the new believer quite some time before their guard goes down, and they allow God to show them how the body of Christ operates.
James 3:1; “My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.”
