Liahona, ‘The Family: A Proclamation to the World,’ January 2016
This month the LDS’ Visiting Teaching Message was a rededication of their beloved ‘Family Proclamation’, originally given by Gordon B. Hinckley in 1995.
The message was one of the shortest I’ve seen yet, as far as VT Messages go, but unfortunately, that didn’t mean their words weren’t noteworthy. Let’s take a quick look at what was said –
“Bonnie L. Oscarson, Young Women general president, said: “We were grateful for and valued the clarity, simplicity, and truth of this revelatory document. … The proclamation on the family has become our benchmark for judging the philosophies of the world, and I testify that the principles set forth … are as true today as they were when they were given to us by a prophet of God nearly 20 years ago.””
Questions –
Why isn’t God’s word your benchmark?
Why isn’t there even one reference in this VT Message to God, or the Bible? His word says that His word is a lamp unto our feet! Ps. 119:105
The next comment came from the 1st Counselor of the Relief Society, Carole M. Stephens who made the following observations –
“From the family proclamation, we learn, ‘In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father’ …
“… We each belong to and are needed in the family of God.”
We live in a time when parents must protect their homes and their families. “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” can guide us.”
Indeed, you can learn about the doctrine of a premortal realm in the LDS Family Proclamation, because it certainly can’t be found in the Bible. If they’d just open God’s word which is truth, they’d discover the lies they believe in, and repent straightaway.
Since becoming a Christian I’ve always been fascinated how God has told us the exact opposite of what I learned in the Mormon Church. In Paul’s famous argument for the resurrection, we find a teaching telling us there is no such thing as man having a premortal life.
1 Corinthians 15:45-47; “And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. 47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.”
After Ms. Stephens’ remarks, two Mormon verses were listed; Mosiah 8:16–17; Doctrine and Covenants 1:38. At the end they asked ‘How is “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” a document for our day?’
Answer: it isn’t.
Oh, how these dear people need our prayers! Pray that when they go from home to home, they would wonder why they’re not instructed to use the Bible!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle

Yes, yes, yes!
why do you spend your time tearing down something instead of building something of your own. If you don’t like what they believe in, respect their right to believe it and move on with your life. Its like you are full of poison and you just want to spread hate. Live and let live. Find your own peace. Its a shame you take so much time on this instead of expressing your own views and beliefs. If what you have to say is so important prove it on its own merits instead of comparing it to others. Just saying.
