May 15 – Hero Worship. Isaiah 29:13; “Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men.”

Directing the flock to give in to your feelings of love and adoration for a man, is nothing short of blasphemy my friends! We should adore no one but the Lord. This is definitely a form of hero, if not outright idol worship. Pray for the Mormons who heard and believe this false report!

General Conference, ‘Continuing Revelation,’ October 2014; “Don’t take lightly the feeling you get of love for the prophet of God. … That is far more than hero worship or the feelings we sometimes have of admiring heroic figures. It is a gift from God. With it you will receive more easily the gift of confirming revelation when he speaks in his office as the Lord’s prophet. The love you feel is the love the Lord has for whoever is His spokesman.” — Henry B. Eyring
Many of the General Authorities sort of see themselves as rock stars. Elder Holland came to my stake a few years ago and gave a talk. During the talk, he described an interaction that he had earlier that day in the Stake Center parking lot. He said some lady was pushing a baby stroller across the parking lot when she looked up and saw Elder Holland. The lady apparently gasped in unbelief at seeing Elder Holland. As she stood looking at him, she was overcome with fits of giggling and obvious joy.,She then lost control of the stroller. The stroller( baby inside), then rolled on, hitting the curb right next to Elder Holland. Elder Holland then reached down and grabbed the baby, holding it safely in his arms. Bottom line, he described this event from the perspective of a celebrity. Really made me think about the kinds of values some of these GAs have.
