Ensign, ‘Have You Been Saved,’ May 1998 “We are saved from our sins (see Hel. 5:10) by a weekly renewal of our repentance and cleansing through the grace of God and His blessed plan of salvation (see 3 Ne. 9:20–22).” — Dallin Oaks
Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Today we’re looking at some of the key things Mr. Oaks had to say in his General Conference talk in 1998. A couple of days ago we saw several troublesome comments in his speech, clearly indicating he doesn’t understand the concept of what it means to be saved. See Bait and Switch of Mormon Salvation for more info.
Unfortunately for members of the Church, Mr. Oaks continued to confuse members when he said they’re saved from their sins by renewing a promise they made to God.
Where is Jesus in all of this? What happened to His spilt blood on Calvary?
God said our works are as filthy rags in Isaiah 64:6, furthermore He also told us in Ephesians 2:8-9 it’s by grace we’re saved, and not works. If you’re LDS, did taking sacrament prevent you from sinning this week?
Mr. Oaks’ quote from Helaman shows that he’s leading people astray. Joe Smith didn’t want people to believe Jesus could save us while we’re yet sinners (Romans 5:8). Rather, Smith used a phrase in God’s word that appears only ONE time, and twisted it to use as his excuse God can’t help you if you’re still sinning. The verse comes from Matthew 1:21, which is what he used in the BoM. See Helaman 5:10.
Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
Helaman 5:10 “…the Lord surely should come to redeem his people, but that he should not come to redeem them in their sins, but to redeem them from their sins.”
Dear Mormon friends, this is a declaration against the Lord. Stating Jesus can’t save us in our sins is calling Him a liar which means He’s not an omnipotent God. Moreover, this is a partial plagiarism of what He said, and by adding more to it makes it another lie. As an FYI, isolating one bible verse to build a doctrine is a sign of a cult.
Please pray for these dear people, and if you’re LDS we beg of you to come out from the lies!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
If God can’t help us while we’re still sinning…what hope do we have???
A DIY religious system is another sign of a cult.
