‘For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.’ 1 Timothy 1:12
I finally made the break after spending 30 years in the Church, and accepted Jesus as my Savior and God in 1993. One of the main things that played a major part in making my decision was God’s word.
At my ‘Confirmation Ceremony’ at the age of eight, the bishopric literally patted me on the head, gave me a Bible, and told me to go home and read it.*
I thought they were serious, and did just what they said. Unbeknownst to me, I shouldn’t have taken them so seriously. During my very young impressionable years, God spoke to me through His word on several occasions.
The main theme I kept coming across was the personhood of Jesus. I’d read stories in the OT, and experiences of the early apostles, but nothing piqued my interest as the Gospels.
Upon my exodus I began researching LDS doctrines, and much to my horror they were more blasphemous than I could’ve ever imagined. The first few years were brutal, and the more I studied, the worse it got.
Today we’re looking at one of the topics that not only shocked me, but told me once again I hadn’t imagined all of their blasphemy. The horrific things they’ve claimed about our Lord should give everyone pause, and I pray Mormons today will heed the caution.
Our question here is quite simple.
How could Jesus be the only begotten if LDS doctrines claim He was/is our elder brother, and more importantly, that He’s the brother of Lucifer?
We’ve listed several LDS references below as examples showing how their doctrines contradict each other, which in turn leads to confusing members even more.
As an FYI, GotQuestions.org has a very informative, must read article, on the definition for the ‘Only Begotten Son’. It’s great info for everyone, LDS, and non-LDS alike.
*A member is ‘confirmed’ and accepted into membership of the Church usually on the day after baptism and during a Sacrament Meeting held on Sundays. During the ceremony, three members of the bishopric circle around the patron, and place hands on the head of the new member. They recite an obligatory prayer, and give their personal insight to the one being confirmed. Sometimes the Confirmation Mtg will take place immediately after the baptism.
If you’re Mormon, we want you to know we pray for you every single day. We don’t post these things to bash or to embarrass you. We do this because we understand where you are now – we’ve been in your shoes.
We’re praying you want a real relationship with Jesus, and hope to hear from you soon!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Moses 1:32-33 “…mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth. 33 And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.” [emp. mine] | Doctrine and Covenants 20:21 “Wherefore, the Almighty God gave his Only Begotten Son, as it is written in those scriptures which have been given of him.” [emp. mine] |
Doctrine and Covenants 76:23-24 “For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father — 24 That by him…the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God.” [emp. mine] | Doctrine and Covenants 93:11 “And I, John, bear record that I beheld his glory, as the glory of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth, even the Spirit of truth, which came and dwelt in the flesh, and dwelt among us.” [emp. mine] |
Jesus the Christ, p. 8 “…Christ and Satan, together with the hosts of the spirit-children of God, existed as intelligent individuals…In that great concourse of spirit-intelligences, the Father’s plan, whereby His children would be advanced to their second estate was submitted, and doubtless discussed…” — James Talmage, 1915 | Discourses of Brigham Young, 40 “Our Lord Jesus Christ — the Savior…is the Only Begotten of the Father pertaining to the flesh. He is our Elder Brother…” — Brigham Young [emp. mine] |
John 1:14, 18 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.” [emp. mine] | |
Whether you’re Christian or LDS please click on the “got questions” link above. It’s important to get this right. Jesus wasn’t created, He is the creator of everything, including you and me, and has ALWAYS existed, John 1:1. Which means He can’t possibly be our spirit brother. Please don’t allow anyone to drag Him down to our level.
Amen sister! I’m so grateful NOT to be worshiping someone who was supposedly once a sinner as I am…what a dismal outlook that was in life. Ugh…
I pray that in these (latter??) days, the Holy Spirit will reach out to more and more Mormons that they may learn and receive the true knowledge (Bible)regarding true salvation.
” And it will come to pass in the last days saith God, I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and DAUGHTERS shall prophesy and your young men shall have visions and your old men shall have dreams. And it shall pass that whosoever shall all upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Acts 2:17,21)
The question isn’t what Jesus is, the answer is Who He is. Satan’s brother can’t save you, only God has payed for and can forgive sin.
