“What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5  For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, And hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet”. Psalm 8:4-6

Today we’re looking at a Mormon belief that’s not only a contradiction, and plagiarism, but an obvious false doctrine as well. We originally posted this back in 2011.

Gospel Through the Ages, p. 15 “The appointment of Jesus to be the Savior of the world was contested by one of the other sons of God. He was called Lucifer, son of the morning. Haughty, ambitious, and covetous of power and glory, this spirit-brother of Jesus desperately tried to become the Savior of mankind. At the great council he proposed a new plan of salvation, event, the Lord revealed the following to Moses…” — Milton Hunter (more…)

February 25 – “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God;  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even death of the cross.”  Phil. 2:5-6, 8.

There are actually two subjects to notice with this verse.  Explain the word “robbery” to the Mormon.  In the Greek, it means “grasped”.  The other subject is the belief that Jesus had to perform, or work, to receive His salvation.

“If a man gets a fullness of the priesthood of God he has to get it in the same way that Jesus Christ obtained it, and that was by keeping all the commandments and obeying all the ordinances of the house of the Lord.”  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 308

December 2 – John 3:16-17; “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

John 3:16 is always a favorite for Christians, but many times we overlook the very next verse.  Today pray for the Mormons and the immense amount of pressure they put themselves under by believing they’ll never be good enough to be saved.  As if teaching you have to save yourself isn’t bad enough, notice here today what else they believe about Jesus.

“Only Begotten Son; Only Begotten in the flesh, meaning in mortality. This designation of our Lord signifies that he was begotten by Man of Holiness as literally as any mortal father begets a son. The natural processes of procreation were involved; Jesus was begotten by his Father as literally as he was conceived by his mother.”  Bruce R. McConkie, Doctrinal New Testament Commentary, 3 vols., 1: 144.

“And the great and wonderful love made manifest by the Father and the Son in the coming of the Redeemer into the world; That through his atonement, and by obedience to the principles of the gospel, mankind might be saved.”  Doctrine and Covenants 138:3-4.
