‘He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: But he that perverteth his ways shall be known.’ Proverbs 10:9
Integrity is a mighty hard commodity to come by for some folks. Case in point is what we’re looking at today. The LDS apostle, Dallin Oaks, gave a speech at their latest General Conference that spoke more of their same old ways than anything new, or revealing.
Note: As of Sunday, October 6 – Tuesday, October 8, the link for Mr. Oaks’ speech kept defaulting to a speech given by Jeffrey Holland. After repeatedly trying to get to the entire speech on their site, I’m giving up on that and only using their talk summary notes and link. Perhaps others will have a better time of it – ha!
For the sake of brevity, we’re only using a few things he said. To read their summary notes in full, see President Dallin H. Oaks: ‘Two Great Commandments’.
“God requires His children to obey His commandments because only through obedience, including repentance, can one return to live in His presence and become perfect as He is. … The Lord’s apostles are commissioned to teach nothing but truth. They cannot modify divine law.”
Oh dear, Mr. Oaks …
Lie #1 –
If you’re commissioned to teach nothing but truth, they sure didn’t do a very good job of it. … We didn’t live w/ God before we were born here on earth. 1 Cor. 15:44-47
Lie #2 –
The Church has always taken liberty to change, modify, and/or adjust any, or all of their doctrines. It’s always been in their m.o., and their own words proves they lied. If they’re a ‘restoration’ church who claims they have continuing revelation, by default, they’re going to change things.
Lie #3 –
Explain the two manifestos they issued modifying their stance on race issues, and polygamy.
We’re also wondering why they seem obsessed with other people’s private lives. Why the incessant public declarations on the LGBT issue? For someone who claims they should live the law of chastity, they sure don’t have a very good track record.
“Thus, the leaders of the Church must always teach the unique importance of marriage between a man and a woman and the related law of chastity.”
Lie #4 –
What are they going to do with all the extra wives in heaven? Whom will they be married to if marriage is between a man and a woman?
“… It’s difficult to understand the challenges that one might face in mortality. But God helps His children overcome challenges if they sincerely seek His help.”
Lie #5 –
Not everyone is God’s child. The issue with Mr. Oaks’ false teaching is this –
Mankind was not literally begotten by God. Those who reject Him as God are disqualified from being His son/daughter. The God of the Bible didn’t sexually beget spirits in the heavenlies, and no matter how you spin the story, it doesn’t fit with God’s word. John 3:13.
Lie #6 –
“The ultimate and final judgement [sic] will be by the Lord, Who alone has the required knowledge, wisdom and grace to judge each of us.”
What’s up with the bishops being the judge of members?
“The walk to follow God’s two great commandments demands that one not compromise on commandments — “but show forth a full measure of understanding and love.”
Such a walk “opposes recruitment away from the covenant path and it denies support to any who would lead people away from the Lord…”
In other words, stay away from those who don’t believe what Mormons believe. …
Whatever happened to the ‘families are forever’ plan?
These dear people obviously need the prayers of mighty prayer warriors! Also, ask the Mormon you know what they think of Oaks’ talk. He’s obviously complicated a few things…
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
