“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say…” — CS Lewis, Mere Christianity, pp. 55-56.

General Conference, “A Teacher Come from God”, April 1998 “For each of us to “come unto Christ,” to keep His commandments and follow His example back to the Father is surely the highest and holiest purpose of human existence. To help others do that as well—to teach, persuade, and prayerfully lead them to walk that path of redemption also—surely that must be the second most significant task in our lives.” — Jeffrey Holland (more…)

‘He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: But he that perverteth his ways shall be known.’ Proverbs 10:9

Integrity is a mighty hard commodity to come by for some folks. Case in point is what we’re looking at today. The LDS apostle, Dallin Oaks, gave a speech at their latest General Conference that spoke more of their same old ways than anything new, or revealing.

Note: As of Sunday, October 6 – Tuesday, October 8, the link for Mr. Oaks’ speech kept defaulting to a speech given by Jeffrey Holland.  Today we’re looking at an article in the latest New Era Magazine. As a reminder, the Church’s intended audience for this periodical is their youth group consisting of 12-18 yr old kids. To read the article in full, see New Era, ‘The True, Pure, and Simple Gospel of Jesus Christ (excerpts),’ May 2019.

The article was written by their apostle M. Russell Ballard and his focus was the Two Greatest Commandments – see biblical passage listed above. For the sake of time, we’re looking at one key item of interest. Ballard’s comment was couched in a lot of nondescript directives that’d be easy to look over, thus our pointing it out here. (more…)

The focus of the Church’s latest First Presidency Message was to remind members they should love others using the passage in Matthew 22:36-40. We’re not concerned so much with the theme, as many Christian pastors will have the same type of sermons. Rather, our interest lies in Dieter Uchtdorf’s definition for ‘a child of God’.
