‘He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: But he that perverteth his ways shall be known.’ Proverbs 10:9
If you’ve ever thought the LDS Church is softening on their attitude towards Christianity, here’s proof they haven’t. It didn’t take long to discover their hatred for the Lord couched in Mr. Holland’s talk at the Saturday session of their conference.
We found Mr. Holland’s comment about Christianity in the General Conference’s LDS Talk Summaries. To read his talk in full, see General Conference, ‘The Message, the Meaning, and the Multitude,’ October 2019.
Today we’re taking a quick look at a few key items from his talk.
1. Mr. Holland said that like the blind man on the road to Jericho, Smith rose above the crowd in his day –
“Similarly, Joseph Smith rose above his day’s confusion and cacophony of competing Christian witnesses, with his seeking served as the catalyst for the First Vision. “Then the Father set the example we have been applauding this morning: He pointed to Jesus, saying, ‘This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!’”
Why are they still referring to the body of Christ in this manner?
Where in the Bible does it refer to Christianity in this way?
How sad for the Mormon who adopts this into their beliefs. Keep in mind every missionary listened to Holland’s talk, and this will be their mindset at the next doorstep they darken.
2. Would God really use the phrase, ‘This is My Beloved Son, Hear Him’ twice? Remember, God said this at the Transfiguration – Matthew 17:5.
3. Mr. Holland also stated the greatest expression of Jesus’ identity was proclaimed during the time Smith was alone in the ‘Sacred Grove’.
“No greater expression of Jesus’ divine identity, His primacy in the plan of salvation and His standing in the eyes of God could ever exceed that short seven-word declaration.”
With such a profound moment in all of history, it seems odd no one knows where the grove is located.
Moreover, the entire Bible points to the identity of Jesus. The OT tells us about people who anxiously awaited His arrival. Those in the NT era obviously knew He had arrived. While most rejected Him, a great many did not. Two instances come to mind immediately; Anna in the temple, and Simeon the temple priest who waited year after year for the Messiah’s arrival.
Those two examples alone point to the identity of Jesus!
Oh how we’re praying for Mormons to know the Real Christ Jesus and Him crucified!
Be sure to ask the Mormon you know what they thought of Holland’s talk, and with love and your Bible in hand, show them what God thinks!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
