“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6
Today we’re looking at a speech Brigham Young gave in 1857. The number of false teachings in this speech is staggering. What’s equally shocking is although the Church denounced Brigham’s teachings, their premiere university still bears his name.
Journal of Discourses 4:271-272 “Comparing spiritual with temporal things, it must be that God knows something about temporal things, and has had a body and been on an earth, were it not so He would not know how to judge men righteously, according to the temptations and sin they have had to contend with.
1.Numbers 23:19 says God is not a man.
2.1 Corinthians 2:15-16 says only He that is spiritual judges, and no one judges Him. Why did Brigham feel he could say such things when His word declares otherwise?
He continued on with the following blasphemies…
If I can pass brother Joseph, I shall stand a good chance for passing Peter, Jesus, the Prophets, Moses, Abraham, and all back to Father Adam, and be pretty sure of receiving his approbation. . . . If we can pass the sentinel Joseph the Prophet, we shall go into the celestial kingdom, and not a man can injure us.
3.Where in the Bible does it say these things? The word ‘sentinel’ isn’t in the Bible, nor is the idea of a graded pyramid system.
4.Isaiah 44:8 tells us God doesn’t know of any other god, so why did Brigham place Joseph into such an exalted position?
If he says, “God bless you, come along here;” if we will live so that Joseph will justify us, and say, “Here am I, brethren,” we shall pass every sentinel; there will be no danger but that we will pass into the celestial kingdom.” — Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, March 8, 1857
5.What happened to Jesus, and His spilt blood?
6.John 14:6 says no one comes to the Father but through Jesus. It didn’t say you have to pass Adam, or Peter, let alone Joseph Smith!
7.Why is Brigham quoting Isaiah 6:8 when he openly denounced the Bible?
8.There’s no such thing as the Celestial Kingdom because man will never become a god.
The sad part of this speech is how revered the man is that gave it. Sadly, no one questioned Mr. Young then, and aside from an occasional correction, they still don’t.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
Brigham said in Journal of Discourses, Volume 9, page 312, that a person must confess Joseph Smith as God’s latter day prophet in order to be saved
.In Journal of Discourses, Volume 13, page 264, Brigham said that his words are as relevant as any scripture.
Ever wonder why the Mormons are so confused? This confusion and contradiction of thought has caused many members to flee the church
