As everyone knows, I receive Google Alerts on all things Mormon. Last week I began receiving emails about newspapers reporting on a whistleblower exposing what the Church does with its money.
According to a former insider, the Church misled members on where their tithing goes. The Washington Post reported the insider filed a complaint with the IRS in November. He alleges the Church stockpiled $100 billion dollars from surplus donations into accounts, and they weren’t using them for charity.
It didn’t take long for the Church to respond, and on 12/17/19, LDS Inc. provided an official statement. Rather, they provided their true to form rabbit chase of statements explaining their behavior. I found no less than six ‘official’ statements/excuses of what they do with the money, and how the person who started the whole thing was nothing but a disgruntled employee/member of the Church.
To sort out the fluff, we’re providing a few key remarks, and links to what they’ve published.
In one of the video links they had a 3 member panel of church officials who seemed like they were trying to calm the nerves of anyone listening to them.
Three days after that notification another link on their site provided a comment they made in the Salt Lake Trib that was an eye-roller, if you will. The article noted that in 2017 their once premiere historian, D. Michael Quinn, wrote a book on the Church’s policies regarding their income and its allocations.
Mr. Quinn has always given insider info about the Church with brutal honesty, and the Church rewarded him with excommunication in 1993. With his latest book we found it odd they’d even acknowledge his writings, but then again, they seem to have twisted the meaning of a phrase he used in his 600 page exposé to make it look good for them.
In that link they provided other links with more ‘official statements’ ~
Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé: “The Spiritual Foundations of Church Financial Self-Reliance”
The biggest info everyone should give heed to is found in one of their many stories. This article had a Q&A section about the Church’s finances. One of those contained the following info ~
Church Finances and a Growing, Global Faith
“Q: Why doesn’t the Church publish its financial information?
A: The Church is not a financial institution or a commercial corporation. It has no other objective than preaching the gospel and inviting all to come unto Christ.
While the Church chooses not to publish the details of its finances, the Church does provide public information on the financial principles it follows, the financial controls in place to protect Church funds and the source and use of these funds. The Church also provides all financial information required by law.”
So with all the info, one has to wonder if you pay tithes to the Lord, or to LDS Inc. ‘just in case something in the future might happen’.
100 Billion Dollars…it seems your money would be put to better use by donating to a local charity through a small Christian church. At least that way you’d have a financial statement from the organization.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
My Christian church posts financials on the back of the bulletin every Sunday…..what we took in the previous week and where it went and how much we are behind in one area and how much we are ahead in another. The LDS church makes me sick….lying leaders and blind people. Can’t even use the name Mormon anymore? What do the changes they invent have to do with the LORD? Nothing. Cult, cult, cult. Thank you Lord for saving me.
I couldn’t agree more!
And btw – my church does the exact same thing in our bulletin every week! PTL for truth!
According to the Mormon Church, TITHING only counts when you give your money to the church. Paying tithes or donating money to such organizations as the Red Cross, Veterans organizations, Homeless shelters, Cancer Research, St Jude Hospital for Children etc, does not count. In other words, the church claims that God places more importance on tithe monies going to the Mormon Church, than it does providing food, medical care and shelter for the poor.
It is hard to believe that Mormons have not questioned this doctrine. Why would God prioritize money to a church that already has millions of dollars, over feeding hungry and sick children?
the Old Sarge with another comment. I do believe that the day is coming when the Mormon Church is going to be fully exposed. God has promised it and it will happen
Jesus told the leaders of the church to raise 100 billion dollars before his return.
