Entries in the Journal of Discourses index gives a bird’s eye view of which topics are most talked about in the Church.
Their talks made it clear the Church is in existence solely because of Joseph Smith, and no one else. It was he who initiated the theory Christianity was non-existent, and the God of traditional Christianity was nothing but a ‘monster’, as Smith himself declared.
Initially, what got our attention was the number of pages for references to Joseph Smith.
One of the entries stated, ‘Kingdom of God Ruled by Joseph Smith’.
I couldn’t help but think of our ongoing series for the month of December. Each day we list a prophecy in the OT, and how God fulfilled it in the NT. Today we’re looking at how God placed all authority squarely on the shoulders of One; that being His Son, Jesus.
Ask your Mormon friend/loved one, how Joseph could be the ruler for God’s kingdom when Jesus clearly declared all authority had been given to Him.

Journal of Discourses 6:153-154 “…Do you suppose that Joseph Smith was permitted to be killed because the Almighty had anything against him? No. But he wanted the ungodly that rejected his testimony to fill up the cup of their iniquity; and hence they were permitted to take away his life, after he had accomplished the work he came to accomplish, and not before; they could not touch him before he had done the work he was sent to do—before he had laid the foundation of this kingdom.
Now, says the Lord, “To him that overcometh, will I give power over the nations.” Did Joseph Smith overcome, even unto death? Yes. Was God with him? Yes, he was.” — Orson Hyde, Great Salt Lake City, January 3, 1858.
Was all this power given to Joseph just before the ‘martyr’ jumped out the window? Reading Proverbs 30 the other day, verse 6 jumped off the page….’don’t add to His Word’. Joe added and altered the unalterable….speaking of filling up the cup of his iniquity! Woe, woe, woe…it truly is heartbreaking to think of what Joseph concocted. It is an amazing blessing to be free of it. Praying daily for eyes and hearts to be open to the truth.
