March 23 – John 1:18 “No man hath seen God at any time…the Only Begotten Son hath declared Him”.
_____
The whole Mormon story depends on what or whom Joseph Smith talked to in the grove of trees. He claims it was God the Father and His Son. In light of the above verse, one has to wonder.

“God, the Eternal Father and His Son appeared to Joseph Smith”. A Marvelous Work and Wonder, p. 7, by LeGrand Richards.
[…] What Did Joseph Smith See in the Grove of Trees? […]
“For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as ann angel light. It is not wonder then, if his servants(General Authorities), als masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.” (2 Corinthians 11:13-15).
The entire Mormon religion was (I believe) established on either: 1) a total fabrication; meaning that Joe Smith saw absolutely nothing in that grove or: 2) that what he saw was Satan, masquerading himself into something that Joe Smith was only too eager to accept. After all, Satan likely understood that Joe was a man with a deceitful heart, eager for adulation and the money and fame that go along with such temptation.
Hey good to see you again!
I go back and forth on my opinion of what Smith saw and the two things I always think of are exactly what you mentioned.
Sadly too many have believed him and continue to do so.
#1. So John 4:24 is an example of the Bible ‘not being translated correctly”?
#2. As soldiermp pointed out, 2 Cor 11:14.
#3. Joe woke up and found himself on his back, as I recall. Perhaps, on his foray into the woods he stumbled on some magic mushrooms and voila, we have a new religion.
I don’t think he saw anything, nor did he go into the woods for anything. I think he made up the whole think as a way of making money initially, and then it just snowballed.
I honestly believe that people followed (follow) Joseph Smith because they had not read (fed upon) the Word of God (Bible). They were without knowledge of God’s Word because they were either too lazy to immerse themselves in scriptures, or perhaps, in some cases, didn’t know how to read. Either way, it was easier for many early Mormons to listen to Joe Smith, than it was to pick up a Bible and learn what God had to say for themselves. Even today, most Mormons would rather read the Ensign or listen to General Conference, than to read the Bible. After all, Mormons are told that every word proceeding forth from the mouth of a General Authorities, is to be be considered as scripture. Mormons are not encouraged to read the Bible. They have Article 8 (articles of faith), that tells them that the Bible is flawed. They also have in the Introduction Section to the BOM, where Joe Smith tells his followers, that the BOM is the most perfect book (text) ever written. Joe wanted his followers not to spend a lot time reading the BIble. After all, why the Bible, when it was full of translation errors (ART 8)?
The sad thing is, that many of Joe’s teaching in his DC, contradict what was said in the BOM. For example, there are many verses in the BOM that say that Jesus was God in the Flesh (2 Nephi 6:9; 2 Nephi 10:3;2 Nephi 11:7; Mosiah 7:27; Mosiah 13:34; Helaman 8:23; Alma 11:38,39; Ether 3:14). Of course, such contradictions in scripture, are explained away or hidden by the General Authorities. This explaining away of the facts is also done with any problem concerning church history, such as the fact that JS had well over 30 wives. Until recently, most church members were only knew about Emma Smith, however, the advent of the electronic age, has uncovered and revealed many facts about the Mormon church, that is having a very harmful impact on church membership.
people need to red their Bibles. Had they done that, back in the 1830s, the would have realized that Joe Smith and his predecessors (General Authorities) were (are) false teachers and the enemies of God.
“My people are destroyed from a lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge (Bible), I will reject thee, that thou will be no priest to me.” (Hosea 4:6)
If Mormons want to understand God and his plan of salvation, they need to pick up their Bibles and immerse themselves in the scripture. I would suggest that Joe Smith’s translation of the Bible be rejected in favor of a standard issue Bible.
Encouraging Mormons to reject JS and his teachings is a challenge. After all, I understand that Mormons still regard the Book of Abraham as being God’s Word. How is it, that these Mormons continue reading from a papyrus text ,that has proven to be nothing more than the common words spoken at an Egyptian funeral service?
