Conference Report, April 1925, p. 20 “Miracles are extraordinary results flowing from superior means and methods of doing things. When man wants light he strikes a match, or presses a button, or turns a switch—and lo! there is light. When God wants light, he says: “Let there be light.” It is simply a matter of knowing how to do things in a superior way, and having the power to do them. Man is gradually acquiring this power.
It is a far call from the tallow dip to the electric light. But the end is not yet. Improvements will continue to be made, and some day, perhaps, men may be able to make light just as the Lord makes it. Paradoxically, it might be said that the time will come when miracles will be so common that there will be none.” — Orson F. Whitney
Genesis 1:3 “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
Job 38:4 “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.”
Job 38:24 “By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?”
Job 38:36 “Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who hath given understanding to the heart?”
I’ve had countless encounters with LDS members who’ve told me the answer to Job 38:4 is simple. They were there with God in the pre-existence. The arrogance is startling each time I hear it. 1Cor. 15:44-47 contradicts that theory.
Make no mistake, men will never be able to create light as the Lord does because we aren’t God.
Not only does the book of Job pose some provoking thoughts, the wonderment of thunder also came to mind. (I’m sure Job also mentions thunder as well.) While scientists can explain the intricacies of why, we’re back to square one and fully understand we haven’t the power to create the circumstances for thunder to bellow across the skies God made. Proverbs 27:1 states —
“Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”
Orson Whitney was an early LDS apostle, and a son of Horace K. Whitney and Helen Mar Kimball.
If/when a Mormon tells you they were with God when He created the earth, use demonstrative evidence from the Bible to show how this couldn’t be! Most importantly, pray for their salvation. Although this man’s talk was from long ago, their doctrines haven’t changed on this topic!

And god said let there be 120 + Billion dollars, and lo! there it is.
