March 13 – Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God: The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Here are a few facts about today’s verse to share with your Mormon friend, taken from Barnes Notes on Scripture:
“‘Mighty God’ – Syriac, meaning Mighty God of Ages, and one of the many times in scripture where the name God is applied to Messiah… ‘His name shall be called’, That is, his attributes shall be such as to make all these applications appropriate descriptions of his power and work.”
You see, while this verse appears verbatim in the BoM, it’s been plagiarized, and has no other value attached to it other than taking up space on a page.
Furthermore, Mormons believe that Jesus is ‘a god’, but not the only God of the Bible. I once asked a Mormon if their BoM and the Bible said the exact same thing, could you believe the Bible? They answered, ‘absolutely not’.
Ask your Mormon friend why the BoM has so much of the Bible in it when they refuse to believe the Bible. This verse clearly screams Trinity, yet Mormons don’t believe in the Trinity, so having them use it in the BoM, and their daily verses to share w/ others seems odd. You can read the entire commentary for this verse in the embedded link above.
