Ensign, ‘He Hath Filled the Hungry with Good Things,’ November 1997, 65 “…we bear witness that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only way to satisfy ultimate spiritual hunger and slake definitive spiritual thirst.
Only He who was so mortally wounded knows how to heal our modern wounds. Only One who was with God, and was God, can answer the deepest and most urgent questions of our soul.” — Jeffrey R. Holland
Psalm 101:7 “He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.”
John 1:1, 14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
The lies Mr. Holland told at the General Conference noted above earned a spot in our next Worst of the Worst Mormon Quotes.
Let’s do a quick fact check —
1.Mormons don’t believe the gospel of Jesus Christ is all that’s needed for salvation. The only way members of the Church can achieve true salvation is through works. 2 Nephi 25:23 says it’s ‘by grace we are saved after all we can do’. [emp. added]
2.Members of the Church don’t accept that Jesus was ‘mortally wounded’ for us which would make it possible for Him to know how to heal us. They believe He paid for sins in the Garden of Gethsemane and then went to the cross. D&C 19:18 This means they’ve rejected the 59 fulfilled prophecies of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins.
See Crucifixion of Jesus for more info.
3.The LDS Church doesn’t teach that Jesus is God. Joe Smith emphatically declared in his testimony that two personages (the Father and the Son) appeared to him. Joseph Smith’s Testimony 1:17.
Although Mr. Holland gave this talk in 1997 the same blasphemous doctrines are still being taught. Don’t forget to tell the Mormon you know about the fulfilled prophecies and share how Holland declared Jesus is God!
