Manual, New Testament Stories, Introduction “Our Heavenly Father’s Plan … We lived in heaven with Heavenly Father before we came to earth. We are His spirit children and had spirit bodies. We loved Him, and He loved us. … Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 354”
1 Corinthians 15:44-46 “It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.”
The other day I checked out the Church’s latest teaching manuals for 2023 and their outrageous lies were immediately apparent.
On the first page of their online manual was an image of their heavenly father surrounded by four of his spirit kids with the caption we’ve listed above. We have a couple of questions/concerns with their lesson plan…
1.The biblical reference above clearly shows we were made a natural body first and then became spiritual. This makes Joe Smith’s claim of a preexistence impossible.
2.Why is there an image of a black child in the preexistence? This totally contradicts LDS theology. Everyone in the Mormon preexistence was white. People didn’t become dark until after they were born. For more info see What was the Curse of Cain? and 2 Nephi 5:21 —
“And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.”
Notably, the reference they gave in the caption only mentions Joe Smith’s teachings and doesn’t mention the Bible at all.
We’ll be looking at more of their NT plan so check back for more info! Meanwhile, please pray for those in the Church who are ingesting these awful lies!

Looking at the pictures, I noticed that Satan bears a striking resemblance to Robert Wagner.
What does Joe say about belly buttons? There should be the pre (in heaven) b.b. and the fleshly b.b. I only have one. Lousy human, Mr. Smith.
Too funny! I’d never thought of that one. 😉 It sounds like the makings of a good article….
There wasn’t any racial skin color among spirits in the pre-mortal existence! You just make stuff up. Geez
Hi Leo778,
I have to say logically speaking, she’s right. The “curse of Cain” wasn’t given to those until after they rebelled, choosing to follow Lucifer instead of Jesus. So it makes perfect sense by LDS doctrine (not Christian doctrine), their skin would had turned dark afterwards.
This is why it’s so important to test what prophets say against what God has already revealed to us in His Word (the Bible).
I hope this helps

Nope, you don’t understand LDS teaching at all. Those who followed Lucifer were cast out, and are demons, and do not have mortal birth.
“Those who were less valiant in the pre-existence and who thereby had certain spiritual restrictions imposed upon them during mortality are know thus as the negroes. Such spirits are sent to earth though the lineage of Cain, the mark put upon him for his rebellion against God and his murder of Abel being a black skin…. Noah’s son Ham married Egyptus, a descendent of Cain, thus preserving the negro lineage through the Flood…. The negroes are not equal with other races where the receipt of certain spiritual blessings are concerned, particularly the priesthood and the temple blessings that flow therefrom, but this inequality is not of man’s origin. It is the Lord’s doing, based on His eternal laws of justice, and grows out of the lack of spiritual valiance of those concerned in their first estate.”

The citation you gave is what I grew up with in the 60’s – 70’s. Thanks for providing it!
Some inconvenient facts for Mr. Chestfield:
1) Joseph Smith ordained at least two black converts to the priesthood. His platform as a presidential candidate was opposed to slavery.
2) The Book of Mormon says “black or white, all are alike unto God”
3) the race restriction applied to African descent only. Blacks from Fiji and Australia aborigne tribes were exempt from the restriction, as were Pacific Islanders. Unlike Protestants, LDS congregations have never been segregated.
4) “Around the turn of the century, another explanation gained currency: blacks were said to have been less than fully valiant in the premortal battle against Lucifer and, as a consequence, were restricted from priesthood and temple blessings.” (essay on Blacks and the Priesthood on church website). Elder McConkie stated after the revelation in 1978 “new light and knowledge” had erased previously “limited understanding.”
5) Protestants have an even worse history with race issues, such segregated churches (even as recent as Jimmy Carter’s church splitting over race), dividing denominations into black and white branches, and prior support for slavery, and Billy Graham’s disdain for the civil rights movement I think it was Jesus who said remove the beam from your own eye?
6) today, there are hundreds of thousands black Latter-day Saints who love their faith.
